Breast Cancer

In the United States, breast cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in women. Signs of breast cancer may include a change in the appearance, size, or shape of the breast, changes to the skin or nipple, or a lump in the breast with nipple discharge.

Black women are 41% more likely to die from breast cancer than White women, despite similar or lower incidence rates. Reasons include the impact of structural racism, racial disparities in access to high quality care, and fewer cancers being diagnosed at earlier stages in Black women.
